fresh quote from latest ComputerWorlda, from article authored by Lech Bury, general director for PATPOL Patent Attorneys Company: Patenting inventions (including those from IT) is good for the economy as a whole and that includes consumers as well (sic!). It is also beneficial for creative individuals. On the other hand, the patent system is certainly disadvantageous for ordinary imitators who stay in the market by using someone else’s ideas (sic!). ...
for the next two-three weeks there will be no new posts. i’m preparing move of my server from Białystok to Warsaw. old, tired IBM PII-233 will be replaced by new IBM x306. if everything goes well, you’ll see no change. in the meantime i should be able to push new revision of Cisco FAQ PL plus some other stuff.
I was able to read two older Moore books (Downsize this and TV Nation), after reading Stupid White Men a while ago. because of nice party with my friends on friday and then following exams that i’m going to take for the next two days, i didn’t do much for (un)Cisco FAQ PL. i also didn’t found time to migrate off Moveabletype to some other CMS (that decided in the meantime to change license to something of pure absurd). on the other hand, looking how “much” support i got after asking for help with finding (not financing! just finding!) good replacement server, it takes all motivation away. thanks to Jakub Klausa and Waldkowi Dworakowskiemu for invaluable help! ...
i dedicate this short article to all pc maniacs.
let me quote NetCraft with regards to most stable hosting companies: Seven of the top nine sites run on FreeBSD. The exceptions are Datapipe, which is doing a fine job of promoting the reliability of Windows 2003, and German hosting company komplex.net which runs on Linux. i wouldn’t like to argue which OS is best to hosting… it’s quite obvious ;)
i never thought that i’ll be bothered by SCO argument with Open Source community, and with Linux in particular. it seems SCO tried desperately to build credibility by claiming Linux broke copyrights, where there such things took place. reading Linus post how SCO was sending demanding emails to those targeted as easy prey, in pathetic attempt to get some money before rolling up and dying. SCO supposedly is going to take BSD in crosshairs as well “soon”, but i wish them all the worst, including bankrupcy with all my heart (in line with christmas spirit). ...
IANA announced on 3rd of november, that it passed over 80/8, 81/8, 82/8, 83/8 and 84/8 control over to RIPE. thats nice, but the problem is lazy network and security admins obviously didn’t yet update their ACLs and firewall rules, which means new Neostrada+ TP S.A. users have problems reaching anything in the internet from 83.0.0.0/11 address space. do your job, admins! missing such announcement for over 90 days doesn’t look good! ...
today (but for some of you, it’s still tomorrow), Comedy Theatre will premiere What The Night Is For, with my favorite Gillian Anderson. unfortunately, my travel plans failed, but my friends - Karina Szymczuk and Adam Robiński are there already (with camera ;) ). working people life is unbearable ;)
